I am drinking Sunspanked by Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar at Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar in Torrance.

Name: Sunspanked
Brewery: Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar
Style: Red Ale – Irish
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.3%
IBU: 0
Brewer’s Notes: I heard the sun talk once. He told me he didn’t need to go to college because he already had a million degrees. But that’s neither here nor there. With this medium-bodied, slightly toasty irish-style red ale, every day is sun-day.

I am drinking Mocha Stout by Abnormal Beer Co. at Barbara’s at the Brewery in Los Angeles.

Name: Mocha Stout
Brewery: Abnormal Beer Co.
Style: Stout – Coffee
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.1%
IBU: 21
Brewer’s Notes: This luscious year-round coffee Stout is made with beans from a local San Diego coffee roaster. We then add a healthy dose of cacao nibs creating velvety chocolate notes that compliment the subtle roastiness from dark malts and coffee beans. Drink with breakfast, as a dessert, or both! Mocha Stout; you don’t have to be a coffee drinker to love this beer.

A glass of Modern Times Black house coffee stout. It didn't stay full for long.

A glassI am drinking Black House by Modern Times Beer at Modern Times Lomaland Fermentorium in San Diego.

Name: Black House
Brewery: Modern Times Beer
Style: Stout – Coffee
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.8%
IBU: 40
Brewer’s Notes: It’s so great that you like coffee. I just love that about you. Speaking of which, you’re holding an oatmeal coffee stout positively redolent with coffee aroma and flavor. It’s not acrid. It’s not astringent. It doesn’t taste like that brown puddle at the bottom of the office carafe at 4pm. It kind of tastes like chocolate covered espresso beans, only drier and more like beer. It’s the full-blown coffee beer experience in a sessionable-ish package.

A tall, skinny glass of amber colored beer

I am drinking The Mighty Rhine by Green Cheek Beer Company at Green Cheek Beer Co. Oceanside in Oceanside.

Name: The Mighty Rhine
Brewery: Green Cheek Beer Company
Style: Altbier – Traditional
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.9%
IBU: 0
Brewer’s Notes: Here’s a beer style originating out of Dusseldorf, Germany that we all refer to as Altbier. Fermented with the same yeast used for Kölsch, this is a sort of hybrid style of beer that gets fermented warmer than a lager, but then cold stored (lagered) until just right. Filtered to beautiful clarity, this one is dark amber in color, with lots of yummy dark fruit and toasted malt characteristics and a slight drying roast finish.

A glass of a hazy beer on a rooftop deck

AI am drinking Movies Are the New Books by Green Cheek Beer Company at Green Cheek Beer Co. Oceanside in Oceanside.

Name: Movies Are the New Books
Brewery: Green Cheek Beer Company
Style: IPA – Imperial / Double New England / Hazy
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.6%
IBU: 0
Brewer’s Notes: Nothing better than sitting back and relaxing, the old fashioned way, with a movie after the kids go down for the night, ya know? Sit in your favorite chair. Grab a can of something big and juicy maybe? Well, that’s probably too specific, but either way, we’ve got you got you covered here! With this one, we’ve gone big on the Citra and then light on this new experimental hop called HBC 1019. The result is wonderfully full bodied, juicy, and hits with hoppy layers of mango sorbet, caramelized banana, and starbursts. Stoked on this one!

I am drinking Medusa by Black Plague Brewing at Black Plague Brewing HQ in Oceanside.

Style: Stout – Imperial / Double Milk
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8%
IBU: 21
Brewer’s Notes: Hops: CTZ
Malts: 2 Row, Munich, Chocolate, Roasted Barley
Adjuncts: Cacao nibs, Maple syrup, Toasted coconut

Medusa was originally a ravishingly beautiful maiden, “the jealous aspiration of many suitors,” but Athena transformed Medusa’s beautiful hair into serpents and made her face so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it would turn onlookers to stone.

Medusa is a 4-time medal-winning deliciously decadent Imperial Milk Stout that will stop you as you stare deeply into its dark hue. A mildly sweet maple syrup aroma invites you to come closer… Using continuous recirculation of toasted organic coconut and cacao nibs, we’ve crafted a legendary balance of rich chocolate layers accented by hints of toasty coconut. The sumptuous full body gives an indulgent mouthfeel as the bold flavors mesmerize your tastebuds and draw you in for more.

Style: Red Ale – American Amber / Red
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.1%
IBU: 30
