It’s Artwalk time which means I open the doors to the general public and they come in and take a look-see at my work. Sometimes they walk in and walk out without a word or any thought about what they saw whatsoever. It’s fine, it’s their Artwalk too. Sometimes they try to sneak a picture even though I post little signs suggesting I’d rather they didn’t.
This time..this time I will not post those little signs. I will post another sign. One suggesting that images of my work are released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-ShareAlike 4.0 license. If you really want to dig in, click the link.
I sell my work. The paintings and drawings. You can buy them. Most people don’t. A vast majority in fact. That’s fine but maybe, just maybe a captured image of the work can live on as something else. Maybe someone wants to remix it with something they did or something else they saw. This would be higher praise, I think, than shelling out some amount of currency for the physical thing I made.
I’m still working out how to label and inform the public of this but as the subject of this post suggests, it’s an experiment. Yes, I’m aware that there is no putting the genie back in the bottle. Once it’s Creative Commons it pretty much will stay that way. I’m ok with that.
Snap away…use it to make something else…something greater I hope.
